I recently got a new ray(boesemani) a couple of weeks ago. She is eating well, and has a 7" disc. She is wild caught.

When i got her, she was a bit chewed up, but healthy. her disc is healing fine and she is very active.

I first noticed that under her disc was a few markings.. none of them were really alike. She only had a few at the time(3-4) they were small dots and lines under her disc. white in colour and slightly raised off of the skin, appearing as though they are under her skin instead of attached to it. Each mark has not grown or moved from its original spot, but now she has even more. none are on her gill slits. at first i though they may have been growth marks due to her disc regenerating, but now im not sure at all.. befor i treat, id like a second opinion as i dont know what to treat for, or if anything at all..

She is in a 120gal(4x2x2) with an asian arowana(10")
filtration fluval 405 canister
Wet/dry with 7gals of bio-balls
drip system of 96gals a day, water changes are still done 1-2Xs a week of around 50%
PH 7.6
ammonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 5ppm if that, maybe higher during feeding
tank temp 81F
tank is bare bottom

here are a few pics... i tryed my best to get a good one, but with no luck....

any ideas?

Wow, that's some serious disk regeneration there...

As for the "lines", I think what you're talking about are the sensor lines in the rays disk. These are used to sense the electrical charges from possible prey.

I don't see any spots. Could you circle what you're looking at in the picture using MSPaint or something like that?

Wow is right on the disc. I see what your saying about the bumps. I have similar ones on my rays but haven't noticed them spread. Was the ray treated before you aquired it. If anything for now I would just make sure it has pristine water. If she is eating and the disc is healing let things settle out and see from there.

Not sure but I think he is referring to the white pimple like spots.

that ray was seriously injured before.the bumps are probable part of the wound or happened when it was attacked maybe theeth marks from a kayman or some other creature.
another question how much did oliver charge you for that ray what are they worth i like them

The disc does not look like a injury from bites or anything like that but some sort of bacterial infection that thinned it out. It looks like it was cured and on the mend.

She was really chewed up, but starting to heal really fast. she eats really well, and since the disc is healing so quikly, im assuming she is very healthy. I know what the sensory lines are, im referring to the small white dots that shes peppered in.

Oliver treated this ray befor shipping it. The original person that received her, did a second treatment and got her eating on a good diet. After that, i purchased her.
These bumps started out as only a few, so i didnt think much of it, but i kept an eye on them to make sure they werent anything bad. unfortunatly, their population exploded. Im hoping it has something to do with her disc healing...she is eating great so far, but a bit picky when it comes to variety.

The bumps have now multiplyed. If this is how they looked originally, then your theory could be accurate, but since they have multiplyed, i doubt that is it.
I purchased her from a friend that got her from oliver. Oliver is asking $1500 for a ray this size right now.

originally, she was missing large chunks out of her disc. mostly on one side. i also noticed she was missing a small piece of one of her pelvic fins(feet) She is healing quikly now, with no sign of anything secondary besides these bumps... they are multiplying, and thats what made me post this...

So should i leave her, and see what happens? or start a treatment of some sort? I was thinking some salt at least.

I would leave her if everything is going good. I would also leave the salt out for now. The reason I say this is this looks like a ray I had a bacterial problem with and it looked like it was torn apart on the disc but was just rotting. I used a high concentration of salt to cure and had these little bumps appear. Which could have been a reaction to the high salt.

i talked to Mr. frank Z in eroupe and he says salt will not hurt a freshwater ray!!!

Mostly no but with me I ended up dosing with a high concentration for long duration. It may have been reaction to the salt over time or just part of my original problem. Never wanted to retest the situation again to confirm the culprit lol. Worse thing ever to watch this bacteria eating away at the disc. Long thread on it so read only if your bored.
