does this mean only fish from these two families

dk what you mean by that, but the other guy is right... the jack is a central american cichlid, so it needs a different water pH than the africans.. plus, the only reason hes probly doing so well is his big size advantage over the africans.. were he smaller hed probly get beaten up...
as far as other african possibilities go, peacocks and haps would add a lot more color... if the tanks agression level isnt too high then they should be fine but i have a nasty kenyi who loves to pick on my peacocks and they dont do much to defend themselves

im new to this so im not sure what fish are which just yet learning so that my fish can live hapy lives an what fish work best together i know they need alot of caves to chill in an some smooth slate for spawning but thats about it

Most aquarium fish thrieve in stable tapwater PH 6.5 -8.5 you have ZERO issues with ph so long as you don't try to change it chemically. Dietary requiements however are different. The JD requires a high protien diet were as the Mbunas require a lower protien higher vegitation diet. Supplimenting the Mbunas w/ Supirulina flake can easily make Mbuna's thrieve with all kinds of other fish. The problems arise with Africans and New world cichlids when it comes to territory. Over-crowding helps dissapate the Africans aggressive nature towards territory - where as more space and less fish - esp. cichlids - keeps the JD's aggression towards others in check.

ok i got to bumble bees an put them in there seem like they arent being to aggressive with the other fish there are a couple smaller cichlids in there but i dont mind loseing them

ok help my ammonia is a 2.0 i got it down from 8.0 i dont know how my fish are living but the two bumble bees dont look so good i changed over half my water an i have just put some top fin ammonia remover in i have to check back in two hours hope it comes down i spent almost twenty dollars on those two fish

well my two bumble bees died but has tought me a valuable lesson. be sure of everything before progressing i put some to fin bacteria supplement in today an added some extra filter media in the hob. my nitrite is 0 ppm an the nitrate is 5.0 now an the amonnia is down to 2.0
