My cousin found this fish on the shore of his private reservoir in southwestern Oregon this week. He has only planted bass, trout and bluegill in his 2-3 acre pond. However, no telling if someone may have let fish go over the years when he was not there. He does feed the trout a commercial fish food to increase their size for fishing, and perhaps this fish has benefited from the calories and ongoing feedings.
That being said, he thinks it may be a piranha of some sort. It's a big fish, close to 21" long and he estimates that it weighs close to 4 lbs. I've posted the three pictures to the general gallery:
If anyone can help identify the fish species, it would be greatly appreciated. Since sending the photos out, a friend told him that he's seen several of these cruising by the dock.
