can anyone suggest a good protein skimmer?the most i can spend is 100 and some change.im putting it on a 40 gallon breeder.any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

AC Remora. About $139.00. Don't get a Seaclone. They are garbage. Dr Fosters has the Blue Turboflotor for $179.00. It cab be yused as a hang on or in sump. Turboflotors are the best protein skimmers.

Invest just a little more ($50) and you'll be much happier.. I'd go for the AquaC Remora.. The Remora nano has worked perfectly for my 10G.. You get what you pay for with protein skimmers

aquaC remoras are very good skimmers

bakpaks and octopus are also highly recommended..

$100 will get you one crappy skimmer

I don't understand what everyone has against the seaclone skimmers. I have one for my wife's 90g, and it works great.

they work, but there not very efficient. The amount of air to water volume plays a big role on how well they produce foam. Also the way they inject air is important, the fine the bubble the better the skimmate you'll get. I own the 150 seaclone model, and run it with increase air inlet size and a larger maxijet pump, moded to fit that adapter and it works alright, its on a 55.

My vote would also go towards the aquaC, deff. one of the better HOB style skimmers. Coralife, bakpaks and Turboflotors are up on the scale as well.

good luck, let us know what you decide.

ebay and craiglist.... you can get used skimmers all the time for cheap..

seaclone are fine IMO, but their ratings are way off.. the 100 is supposedly good for 65 gallon tanks...
i bought one way back when, and would only (and currently) run it on a 29 gallon tank
