Can anyone tell me about Hoplo Catfish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok after rooting around here's my review list grabbed from WetSpot:

Notoglanidium macrostoma “Dwarf Giraffe Cat” 15.00 max 10-11

Mystus bocourti max 9

Synodontis brichardi max 8

Synodontis multipunctatus max 6-11

Synodontis soloni max 6

CAQUETA GOLD EARTHEATER 8 max peaceful

Geophagus pellegrini “Colombia” 6 max

Will visit my LFS and see what they have in adult size this weekend...will make a final decision then. Stoked about the mini giraffe though!

*these are available in the larger sizes, 3-5 inches.

A 225 that's sitting on a dolly. Right now I'm waiting on a replacement stand for a wood stand that failed. Thanks for the tip, I will look there. I had 2 synos that were 5 inches at purchase that did ok with my O because of tank size, escape lanes and hideouts. Lost one that had grown to 7 inches during the emergency transport (I think the O got him at night). So anything in the 5-7 ish range should work to start off with. Generally looking at cats that max at about a foot.
May I ask how the stand failed? That's scary.

The Lima shovelnose would probably be my recommended choice. They can get a bit bigger than what you mentioned, but they are very cool with an unusual look for catfish. They are also more of an open water cat.

I'm not that familiar with african catfish, but they seem to do well from what I understand.

Welp, turns out those albino hoplos I looked at are 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Perfect snack crackers for my O...?

No word yet on the size of the chocolate I had my eye on. Will be headed to the LFS this saturday.

I have yet to see any albino hoplo catfish bigger than that.

Yeah the pic was deceiving...just glad the seller got back to me. I'm also thinking of some smaller corys to go in my single parrot tanks.
