Hi, I have a group of hujeta and geo.sveni coming in and am thinking about adding this catfish to the mix. Unfortunately I can’t find much info on it. How big, temperament, how predatory etc would be helpful. Also my hujeta are coming in at around 3-4” and the geos around 2.5”. This catfish is listed as 4”.
thanks for any info
Im assuming it has similar parameter requirements to the other fish
Thanks for any help

I’m also considering this aluminum catfish that’s currently 4-5”. Any info on this as well is appreciated

Aluminium catfish are frightfully boring and almost never seem to grow much in my experience; TBTB has a thread on them, I'm pretty sure. Milingu Milingu , I've personally never heard of P. piramuta being used for B. vaillantii; is it just that few use piramuta as a trade name and that I just haven't seen many labeled as such?

Scientists did it.

piramuta, Bagrus Kner [R.] 1858:382 [12] [Sitzungsberichte der Kaiserlichen Akademie der Wissenschaften. Mathematisch-Naturwissenschaftliche Classe v. 26 (s. 373); ref. 2630] Manaus, Brazil; Borba Rio Madeira, Brazil. Syntypes: at NMW. Type catalog: Ferraris 2007:331 [ref. 29155]. On p. 12 of separate. •Valid as Piramutana piramuta (Kner 1858) -- (Ortega & Vari 1986:15 [ref. 9708], Burgess 1989:281 [ref. 12860] but may equal Brachyplatystoma vaillanti). •Synonym of Brachyplatystoma vaillantii (Valenciennes 1840) -- (Lundberg & Littmann in Reis et al. 2003:435 [ref. 27061], Ferraris 2007:331 [ref. 29155], Grant 2021:48 [ref. 38702]). Current status: Synonym of Brachyplatystoma vaillantii (Valenciennes 1840). Pimelodidae. Habitat: freshwater.

Thanks for the input, there’s not much info around on the aluminum. For size I’m getting everything from 8”-28”. But what seems to be consistent is that they grow super slow. So after watching some videos, I decided on 3 Chrysichthys longipinnis around 3” from a different site. They look really interesting to me. Guess worst case I’ll be donating some larger fish to my local aquarium in a few years lol

The 'Piramutana pitruamuta' appears to be Exallodontus aguanai. https://www.planetcatfish.com/common/species.php?species_id=1864
