Can anyone tell the gender of my vieja fish ( red spotted gutalattas)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know some CA cichlid females develop black markings into the dorsal fin. As for Vieja I am not certain of that characteristic mate.
Any Vieja experts in the community know the answer to this question?
Let’s see those crisp clear vent pics

First of all, welcome to MFK!
Second, you have to vent the cichlid in order to find its gender

I wouldn’t be able to confidently say from that. Best bet is to get the fish to face upward or take it out of the tank first a shot of the vent.

Screenshot (299).png for hump growth can i feed hump enchancer flowerhorn food or for viejas hump will grow when the get older

I don’t know if certain foods will enhance that or not. Nuchal humps just grow differently for different species, and it comes and goes with dominance.

Nice fish, I always love to see guttalatus. The fish in my avatar is one as well, which I kept over 10 years ago, and was one of my favorite fish I've kept.
My guess is male just based on the hump- yours is a pretty convincing male, but that can be inconclusive, as dominant female cichlids can grow a bit of a hump as well.
Vent pics from the side angle are not super helpful for identifying, from the bottom and close-up would be best.

Beautiful fish bro, my guess would lean more towards Male. And as far as the nuchal hump it’s strictly based off of genetics. Can expect for this fish to get a kok compared to a Flowerhorn but it looks like it could get a decent nuchal hump if male.

Screenshot (301).png its his parents and father with good hump so the genetics is good bro the question is should i have to give some specific food for hump or its develops when its get adult stage
