Can Broken Acrylic Pieces Be Glued Back Together?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
#16 is junk i.m.o.... its made for "arts and crafts". Its brittle and also the weakest glue weld-on offers. #16 is actually just #4 solvent with peices of acrylic melted into it for a thicker consistency. It does not hold up well over time especially under pressure. Krich, the sellers shipping on ebay may be high to cover a hazmat fee. unfourtuanetly theres no way around paying a hazmat charge when buying the glue. Def. check to see if theres any local acrylic shops around u. They often sell scrap for $1 a lb. also or odds and ends pieces for next to nothing. Ud be better off using weld-on #4 with some patches than even opening a bottle of #16.
another possible fix may be to use no glue at all...im sure u could run a patch piece with a cple nylon bolts to make it sturdy again. would b cheaper also. just an idea.

I have read about it's strength and am pretty set on # 40 for the repair.Someone even gave me information for a local acrylics fabricator.I will call them and the Ebay seller will be my backup if that does not pan out.
My main issue with the Ebay product is that the container size and amount is far more than what I'll need for the relatively small job and I will likely never again use any more of the stuff ever. The price while high is still far better than the price of a brand new overflow box.

I agree that #16 is junk, I have had issues with it bonding acrylic to Polycarbonate

here are the tech sheets for #16 and #40 the TLDR is, #40 is almost twice as strong.

they also have information related to shipping requirements

Do not advise #16 despite the convenience it offers. Shouldn't be used for pressurized, water containing vessels IMO. Poor man's #40

Get the smallest container you can find. Doesn't have a long shelf life at all. Especially once opened.

I recommended 16 since this application didn't sound like anything was under pressure. No need to spend $40 on solvent to fix a $40 part.

If I could get this particular filter box for forty bucks I might just go that route and buy another one but I know they cost twice that amount.
