As for bullhead sizes, go to http://fishbase.org and search for genus Ameirus. You'll get bullhead sizes there. Also check on madtoms, genus Noturus.

As a former employee of a LFS, I'll say that "glad to take him" is just friendly customer service. We used to get all kinds of large fish in and never turned them away because their next stop would be the lake or river. Dumping oversized fish on stores is a burden more than anything because they can hang around for months, eat a ton, and require lots of maintenance. Also counting on someone to buy a "white elephant" of a fish and really give it a good home... well... it doesn't always work out that way.
Well I do agree with you in some aspects of what you said, but I have to disagree on the part that some lfs think its a burden or they just do it for the sake of rescue. The local fish store by my house , houses monster fish all the time. I dont mean housing them as in people come and drop of their monster fish cause they cant house them anymore. I am talking about they just order 3 feet RTC's and TSN x RTC's and 3 feet Arowana's and honestly I come back the next week and its gone. When I ask what happened to the big RTC they go "he got a new home with a guy who's got a such and such size pond in his backyard."
They make good money off of selling monster fish. So honestly if it becomes a burden and they dont want him then i'll hold onto him until I can give him a bigger aquarium or a new home with someone competent. But the reality behind this lfs is that they will make a killing off of my Channel Cat! I wouldn't be surprised if its gone in a few days and they managed to pull 60 to 70 off of it.
In fact I should be the one b*t**ing since I raised him from small and didnt make one cent off of him![]()
