Howdy,

There are two schools for thought

1) I give my fish the best possible home and make sure that I can take care of them until they die of old age. That can mean being prepared for keeping the same /\/\onster 20 years and having a large tank dedicated.

2) (Almost) no tank is large enough to keep the /\/\onsters we have for life. Only very few members can house an arapaima forever. But that's not really needed, either. I can get a fish, give it a home until it outgrows my tank, and then sell it. Limiting myself to fish that I could house for life would be too restrictive.

What group do you belong to? Vote & Explain

And please remember to be tolerant of people with a different view.

My wolves, lung and gar are not leaving.....unless evolution hits hyperdrive and the lung sprouts legs and walks out.....I hope not..

I never want to see one of my fish die, so I don't keep it for its entire life. I keep it for a certain period of time for example until it gets too big or I want something new. Variety is always great. You have to change it up every once in a while and if you can't get a new tank, then you trade you fish. :naughty:

LOL

I do both, the ones with shorter life spans (<10yrs) I keep them till they expire. The ones with longer life spans (>10yrs) I tend to trade them in for a new variety.

I keep every fish for life, and provide great husbandry. I absolutely love them and will simply not be able to give them away. For my fav. fish I sometimes borrow a specimen from someone else and breed that fish so when it dies I still have some traces of it. :)

All of my fish I currently have I have the means to keep for life, however I'm going to be rehoming my oscar soon as i originally bought him to keep him from dying at petsmart, it was rewarding to keep him, heal up his fins and get him the nutrition he needs, but i need to move him to be able to expand my bichir obsession. Still not 100% he may be here to stay haha.

I am not a fence sitter, yet in this case I have to say I am on both sides of the fence.

For me it would have to be because I am actually doing this for more than a hobby. For me I have been for the past year or so steadily turning my hobby into a business.

With this in mind, every fish or tank has a price. If someone is struck by one of my fish or one of my set ups name the price and it's a done deal.

I do though have some fish/reptiles/amphip that I would be hard pressed to pass on as they are very hard to get ahold of in this area.

I have also been doing my best to get breeders of various fish so that I can have my cake and eat it too. I have breeders of many different kinds. If I had not been sidetracked by a few business issues and a certain personal issue that came to trouble my house last year I would have had my basement fish room finished and set up.
