Do you keep fish for life?

  • Absolutely. They are here to stay.

  • No. I move on when I can no longer meet their needs (or when I want to change things up)

I really just grow attached, that's the reasoning for keeping them. Although, it does crosses my mind every now and then, about changing them up. I can't do it.

The only one of my current fish that I will most likely not keep for life is my Spotted Clown Loach, since I only have a 30g. I rescued him from a Petland and I plan to send him to Shark Aquarium when he gets too big.

I always keep for life unless I'm fostering an animal. I will never consider getting anything that I can't keep because of size restrictions. I am responsible and own several animals from cattle to fish. Some bought but mostly rescued. All are my children for life....unless it's fostered. Fry are the exception they either become food or are given to a LFS once they are around an inch.

I "plan" keep my fish for life. I cannot find the will to give them up, even though most of them are rescues. There are always things we all cant see coming but for now I tell myself they are here to stay. I will continue to upgrade and build something bigger and better for them if I have to. I did unfortunately give up 2 3 foot alligator gar recently but they went to a 35,000 gallon at a cabelas near me, so I don't feel so bad cause I can visit them anytime I want.

I'm kind of a hybrid between the two... I have never sold or given away a fish (although in retrospect, there have been quite a few cases in which I should have), but I wouldn't hesitate to sell a fish if I realized I could no longer care for it properly (like my current situation with my pacu).

It needs a third option in the poll. I have the means to keep the fish I keep for life but it doesn't generally mean I will. I have let fish go in the past as the price offered was too good to refuse while others just didn't end up being my cup of tea.

If he ends up going to Shark Aquarium that's better than that clown loach could have ever hoped for.

GL with that. :)
