It can happen if you get some newly bought bogwood yes ! thats why when you buy it most LFS tel you to rinse it well befor placing it in your tank !

But yes it can sometimes cause your tank water to get cloudy. :)

Just make sure you rinse well befor placing it in and if it's still cloudy give it a couple of days with a good filter it should all clear up !

Oh ok thanks I wasnt sure, as its never happend to me.

Uncured wood also can cause cloudy water.

I bought mine for Petco and they said all you have to do is rinse the wood off. Well they lie........... :swear: or don't know what they're talking about. My water turned into a tea/tan color and was horrible. All I did was put it in a sink with hot water and then let it stayed there for 3-4 days. After that it was a lot better so my recommendation is to boil it or do what I did.

I've had drift wood in one of my tanks for 10+ years, it still turns the water yellow! Doing water changes every week helps, sometimes using carbon in your filter can help too. I like the look of a little bit of tannin in my water, looks closer to my fish's natural habitat.

i agree i always liked the tannin look asecially when i had piranha.
dont get it now though.

tannins make your water have a nice tint to it......i like mine with that coloration but i have no driftwood i took the other way out and used black water extract.....my piranha loves it and has become a ton more active since i added it in for some reason
