Can Driftwood????

I know the African root wood turns your water to be a lot darker than it comes out of the faucet.

It can happen if you get some newly bought bogwood yes ! thats why when you buy it most LFS tel you to rinse it well befor placing it in your tank !

But yes it can sometimes cause your tank water to get cloudy. :)

Just make sure you rinse well befor placing it in and if it's still cloudy give it a couple of days with a good filter it should all clear up !
I have never heard of it making your tank cloudy it does however turn the water a tea color but not cloudy...

if it makes ur water tea colored, how long does it take to clear up?

i have a new piece of driftwood i spent an hour cleanin and i hope it doesnt last long

doesnt driftwood lower your Ph???

I remember the first time i decided to use driftwood, it lowered my ph and seems to have killed off my bb and water turned cloudy. could have been something else but this happened when i put in my driftwood so i am connecting these together.

what types of fish are in the tank??? maybe you can put in some coral chips to help buffer, worked for me...

The tint doesn't last too long. It really depends on the amount of wood you put in at one time. In the last month I put in three medium sized pieces of dwood in a 100 gallon. The first piece didn't leech tannins at all. Two weeks later I added two more medium pieces(from a different LFS) and they tinted the water big time. Two weeks later, 45 gallons of water change, the tint is lessening. I like the color, but I prefer the crystal clear look. Dwood is not supposed to cloud the water. I did soak all the wood in a bucket for 24 hours prior to adding it to the tank.

I've had drift wood in one of my tanks for 10+ years, it still turns the water yellow! Doing water changes every week helps, sometimes using carbon in your filter can help too. I like the look of a little bit of tannin in my water, looks closer to my fish's natural habitat.
Did the barramundi eat the other fish? I believe they grow quite large! :naughty: :woot: :headbang2 :clap  :headbang2

You can "cure" bogwood by soaking it in1cup salt/10g water change the water after it darkens, repeat until tannin leacing is down to acceptable level.Im treating a piece I found in a bog last week. For found pieces also add a soak in chlorinated water to kill anything living in it.

i filled my tank yesterday and i cant see more than 12" in my tank. my wood floats also.

o i forgot to mention. it is starting to grow a white fungus on it. this is just great.
