can female electric blue african cichlids be pretty?

Hi Everyone! I have 3 electric blue african cichlids and one is a lighter blue but not by much and the pet store told me it was a female..can females have vibrent coloration too or are they always grey? also what are some ways that i can sex them other then looking at there color? Thanks!!

They're dimorphic, so males and females don't really look alike. Heres a female, as you can see shes much lighter in coloration then a male...http://www.borstein.com/sam/images/electric_blue_female_web.jpg

And with that being said, its easy to sex them because males will be much more vibrant than the females. & if you can sex them that way then you don't really need to sex them any other way because thats the easiest way there is. But, another method of sexing them is by venting them.

The females just arn't much to look at, but they do help the males acheive there best color.

those females are able to produce eggs and hold their clutches, that is beauty in itself
