can fish see red?

I've read that fish can't see red.I'm sure they see whatever it is thats red but a different color.but what about red leds or infro-red light? if fish can't see red they would be like other animals n wouldn't notice the light.who's used red leds or infer-red lights? What's your thoughts on this?
 
From what I understand, No they can not see red.

I had a friend who had an octopus and he'd stay hidden all day and night until we turned all the lights off. Then we could flick on a red light and watch him move around all night.
 
That's awesome thanks! So actually red leds would be better for watching nighttime activities than blue/moon lights.
