can fish turn platinum?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Fish can't turn platinum, because that is a genetic trait. If it's not in their genes, then the best hope they have is to be kept over light/bright substrate, which will make them try to blend in (or possibly stress them?)

You'll end up with 'platinum looking' fish, albeit, not the real thing.

I've had the same thing happen to a gar I had.. I'm not sure why.. it was in a dark tank but it turned real light. I've since gave that fish away and from what I hear now it's changed back to dark again. But yeah it looked "platinum" almost. I probably could have took a pic a fooled a couple people.

I have noticed with my fish, if I go check on them in the middle of the night then all of them are pale and then in the morning when the sun is out, they are back to normal...
