I have this really cool, MASSIVE, white barnacle skeleton with red stripes, It will look super cool in my Red Devil Cichlid's aquarium
1. Will it deteriorate, desintegrate, or do anything that is a synonym of crumbling?
2. A little worried that my Red Dev could get scraped, but the only thing he runs into is the glass (trying to attack me, beg for attention, or food!) When I do water changes, he starts out aggressive, then a little stressed and afraid because he cant bite into the algae scraper, but then that turns into curiosity. Tonight when I did a water change, he kept hanging out too close for comfort to my fingers, putting his face up to the plants I was messing with, and wherever the plants went, he went! He is such an adorable fish!
I'm gonna finish up my water change (add salt, new cartridges, chemicals) and I'll put the barnacle in, I'm pretty sure it's OK, but it's nice to have official answers.
Thanks!

It will raise your ph a tiny bit and dissolve over a few years. But yeah you can. It's no different than putting coral or bird grit in the tank. I have a couple handfuls of coral fingers in my filter.

It's ok if you don't add to many, it'll last longer if you coat it tho (like many fish ornaments)
