Can I add an Arowana to this setup?

By the way, I wonder what is the largest Silver Arowana ever caught in the wild?

Another interesting more general question is which actually get bigger, wild fish or captive fish -- or does it vary by species? I recently watched a video about a guy who did a lot of diving in Lake Malawi -- his observation was that he was surprised how much smaller most African Cichlids are in the wild compared to the ones we grow out in our tanks -- but makes sense maybe given how much we feed our fish compared to how often they actually eat in the wild.

Again I'm not sure if this growth dynamic is true with all fish species, others might grow less (or worse have spinal problems like we see on some Aros) due to not enough swimming space or other reasons.

While on the subject, the myth of fish only growing to the size of a tank.
Is it the actually square footage?
In a way yes, but no.
Because in a small tank the water goes bad very fast, so the reality is, a fish will cease to grow if conditions are bad.
But what about good filtration?
Filtration holds particulate, and the benificial bacteria that use ammonia and nitrate.
What filters don't do, is remove those growth chemical and organic substances like hormones, and nitrate, that only water changes do.
So to me, most filtration is a smoke screen, there to make the viewer happy, not the fish.
In nature the fish are invisible due to turbidity and particulate, look at the Mississippi and try to see the fish, yet they are there, living quite well, and growing to massive sizes.

Lol no name calling huh? Dude do you even read the bs you spout or are your keyboard warrior fingers flying to fast? I guess calling me sweetheart and buttercups were just endearments? You might be into that sort of stuff, more power to you, but sorry not me). Tbh though I really don't care if you call me names/endearments, such behavior always makes the person doing it look juvenile or worse, simple-minded.

Anytime someone starts the kiddy-like name calling you know their cause is lost lol.

And what's just as bad if not worse: those who actively try to help others or express their view about a subject are called egoists, show-offs, elitists, know-it-alls, fish police etc. just for giving their opinions and what they hope is assistance. People thinking like that and using this terminology just don't understand the concept that some people really do enjoy helping others/returning the favor.

Yeah, dishing on well-intentioned contributors is a great way to encourage new members to learn from the site, grow and then eventually pass that knowledge on to following generations of even newer fish keepers. Maybe instead we should all just go to the Lounge, shoot the breeze, have popularity polls and pretend to be "OG" -- but frankly I don't think that's why most of us are here.
Thats interesting since your buddy uses those same exact terms numerous times lol. I guess your troll comments were meant as a compliment. The hypocrisy that you spew... geez.

Your on a soap box flat out making crap up about me. Yeah im definitely gonna have fun with that hun. Your so emotionally attach its kind of sweet even the og comments haha yeah its not personal sure.... baaaaaarreett

Dude you can be done with me cmon you and stanzzzy boy lament about my trouble making so maybe its true. I can give a rats behind what the 3 of you think but if the overall community agrees with you then i'll either delete my account or ban myself to the filtration and lounge sections.

Doesnt have to be in the lounge if your not comfy do it in GA. Also can be simple no stating cases or arguing. Ask the simple question if mfk is better off yes or no. I'll even spot you a yes vote. Are you scared or something. Cmon buddy have some conviction in your position

Edit :
So the convo moves away from the argument but baaaaaaarret needs to start it back up again...then blame others.

Not to nit pick, but I think that the more accurate term is growth inhibiting substances. The reasoning is that many substances beyond just hormones fall into that category. The end result is fish that never reach their full potential.

I'm beginning to wonder if this happens in humans? lol

What of competition contributing to growth? Ive noticed big growth spurts in my fish, usually cichlids and usually the dominant male, when kept with conspecifics and breeding competition is frequent. Im pretty sure these situations have marked the most rapid growth ive seen in any of my fish.

Yes, totally agree. Not usually something seen in silver aros though, at least I have never seen a silver comm tank?

Lol, nice 'strategy' Frankie -- how stupid do you think people are? You call some me and Stanzzz7 out in a post, and then suddenly run like a little girl and try to hide behind multiple legitimate posts to 'show' us how serious you are -- the most such posts any of us have seen you make on one thread in a loooong time, most coincidentally lol. Then when we go back to address your calling us out by name, you pounce and say 'Hey, why you starting this up again?" I said it before I'll say it again: professional troll. I also refer you once again to my Abraham Lincoln quote.

And about your stupid poll, you are seriously kidding yourself if you think anyone really give's a rat's ass about such polls and whether or not you, me or anyone else is on this site is here -- again this is MFK, not jr. high, and yet another example of how much time you like wasting, It's a well-worn expression but dude you really need to get a life.

Silver aro comm tank....life goals.

What amazed me about most of these cases is that i never noticed the fish eating any more, sometimes the opposite--spending all of their time building nests or fighting for territory.

In short i think the hormonal impulses of breeding competition can, albeit temporarily, outweigh food sources and water quality. Not that we should slack on these at all of course.
