Right now I have a 55 gallon tank. In the tank I have around a 5 inch tiger Oscar, 2 inch fire mouth cichlid, 3 inch rainbow shark, and 3 clown loaches. The clown loaches are prolly 1.5 2 and 2.5 inches right now. I know that this will be overcrowding. I'm actually building a 120 gallon tank, with a 40 gallon tank built into the stand of the 120 and a sump in the stand too. I found a guy about an hour away from me with 5 clown loaches. One is either 6 or 8 inches, He started off saying 8 now says it looks closer to 6 but isn't positive. He then said the other four are around 3-4 inches.

My question is, could I add these to my tank now, and get away with it for a week or two until my 120 gallon is built? I love clownloaches, and really want to get these.

If I can't I have a 29 gallon not being used, would all 8 clown loaches be ok in there for the two weeks?

I think it would be okay for a week or two. Do a few extra water changes though.

Sad news, I was doing a water change today, and realized one of my clown loaches was missing. I found it behind the tank completely dried up :(. I love loaches, and this really upset me. I immediatly found some acrylic sheet, and cut it and put it on the tank as a lid. It makes me really want to go pick up those 5 clown loaches now to start getting my pack back in order.

Well more bad news, tonight I caught my Tiger Oscar with one of my clown loaches in his mouth. He killed it. I'm assuming he must of chased my other loach out and thats what made him jump. I'm torn now, I only have one (my smallest) clown loach left. I have an empty 29 I'm going to set up and put him in tonight. I'm almost done with my tank that I'm building. The top tank being 4x2x2 and around 120 gallons, and the bottom tank thats built into the stand is about 41x9x24 and around 40 gallons.

I need more clownloaches, they have fast become one of my favorite fish. Can I get those other 5 and put them into the 29 gallon then into the 40 gallon? I ultimatly want 10 clownloaches at a minimum. Or should I put the Tiger Oscar into the 29 gallon untill I can find somoene to adopt him, and add some angel fish to the clown loaches and get some tetras etc. ?

Help me figure out what to do, I'm tired of loosing my clown loaches. Also should i go ahead and get those 5 clown loaches, or wait a week or two for me to finish the other tank, or get somoene to get oscar, and hope for the best?

It sounds like you love da loaches--lol.. I would remove the oscar into the 29 gallon until you can find some one to adopt him---makes more sense to me to put your new loaches into the 55 rather than constrict them in the 29..
Good luck with your projects,
Chris

i would post a thread to sell the oscars and get the loaches later unless you are unsure of how long they will be available then just get them now and house them in the 29 for a bit while your build is in progress

Ha ha i definitely have started to love the loaches. I think I've decided to get rid of the Oscar, then get those clown loaches. I'll add them to the 55 then in two weeks or so they will be put into the 120. I'll add my pleco to them. then I plan on getting maybe 5 or so angels, and then maybe some schooling fish like tetras. O and also more clown loaches I want atleast 10. I'll put my firemouth and rainbow shark into the 40 gallon thats built into the stand. Maybe get another firemouth and hope to get a pair. Not really sure with them.

I feel like this would give me a really cool effect with the angels, tetras, and loaches, and be alot more active tank then just one oscar. what do ya'll think?

One more quick question, Do clowns prefer gravel or sand. I've allways used gravel, but I'm tempted to use play sand for my 120 gallon I'm building. It's cheap and I think looks good. I was worried about maintenace with sand bc of how much waste oscar has, but if i get rid of him, I feel like it wouldn't be too bad.
