Can i bring live fish on a flight with me?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not worh the risk either way. You might get someone from the airlines to say yeah no problem at all, then get int he security line and your only option is to kill your fish unless you bring it in a box to ready to check it just in case.

Either way not worth the hassle IMO.

i dont think so,i wanted to take one frm london to shanghai wid me,british airways, they allmost threw me outta their office when i asked them abt it :P

Calling the airlines won't help. I was told by a Customer Service supervisor at AA that there would be no problem checking my fish as baggage. I'd just have to pay $50 for each box over my checked baggage limit. When I arrived with over a dozen boxes of fish, the desk attendant said I couldn't check in the fish. I spoke to a supervisor that told me that the CS supervisor had made a mistake and that the airlines don't allow fish and reptiles on their passenger flights. I had to then cancel my flight, lug the fish (I was on foot since I was dropped off) to the cargo terminal (only to find outgoing packages closed til morning), then re-lug all of the boxes (plus my luggage) to the terminal post office. The PO was happy to ship my boxes for the mere sum of $950+. Then, they rerouted half my boxes to Chicago (instead of MS) and ran over one box (crushing my largest female FRT). Over $4,500 of the rerouted fish were DOA.

Save yourself the hassle. Don't try bringing your fish. A long flight will only stress you out over their condition. Buy your fish after arriving at your final destination.

Wow that really sucks Oddball, that's a lot of investment in fish that you can't safely guarantee surviving.

yeah you can only have 3 oz of liquid and it has to be in its original container. There is no way you will get through with a bag full of water, you might be able to check a box with the fish in it. But then who knows what the temp would be like in the belly of the plane. Especially on a 17 hours flight...

Cold.

Oh God, Phil!! That poor FRT!! This story should be a sticky regarding fish transportation!!

As Phil said. No way.
You have two options (i) send them via a freight company ( but somenone needs to saty on the other side to receive them and take them home asap and it is you that will have to provide all documentation and veterinary certificates or (ii) you have an airline pilot that you know and he is willing to let the boxes into the cabin...because the pilot can authorize it.

Has happened to me once.

There's no chance they will let you bring an animal into the states without the proper paperwork.. I mean, 15 years ago, you might be able to get away with it, but there's no way you could do it now.. I'd really advise against trying to sneak it on to.

The best way to bring your fish to this country is to try to hook up with someone that regularly imports fish and mail it to them. Don't ask me how to find out someone like that.

so you get to bring your little bag of fish on the plane after causing heaps of hassle to everyone involved. The grandma next to you then complains if he can have fish water why can't she have her orange juice, then the next passenger is like if she can have her orange juice why can't I bring my nail clippers, then the next passenger is like if she can have her nail clippers why can't I bring my pistol, and then the next passenger is like if they can have all that why can't I have my little bottle of nytroglycerane? So save everyone the hassle and buy your fish from your lfs.
