My father just bought a new tank and let it cycle for a week,
Today I wanted to catch out the fish from the old tank and noticed that his convicts got fry .
So can I still catch out the other fish and leave the convicts with the fry?or will I harm the convicts or fry ?
Thanks in advance

It would probably be best to take the other fish out and leave the parents with the fry. Just make sure the new tank is fully cycled before doing so...

you can not cycle a tank in a week, takes 6 to 8 weeks whither fish in, or using pure ammonia fishless.

I'm not too sure about that. Those store bought bacteria cultures in a bottle are pretty impressive. My LFS keeps em refrigerated, swears by em. I was skeptical, but it works. Keeps ammonia levels very low, zero nitrites, won't lose fish.

not meaning to offend but store bought bact crap. it is not the same bacteria as you need to cultivate in your filters.bio filtration does not take place in the water, it takes place in your filters. IMHO.

yes it would. can use it to jump start per say while the new media cultivates. I have done this a few times. water from the old tank is not needed, the bacteria lives on the filter and surfaces in your tank, not in the water itself.

There is actually a store bought bacteria culture gel you can buy to inoculate your filter go grab some of that and call it a day...
