Can I do a complete water change of my arowana tank???!!

Maybe I'm getting old or am I missing something here with the extreme water changes?

I'm doing a 50% water change a week on a 33gallon tank because my fish is simply to big to keep in there, the filtration is next to useless for a fish of the size, but and here is my point(if you want to shout and srceam at me PM me if you don't know me) surely with the correct tank size/filtration extreme water changes are not so necessary, surely a 10-20% is sufficient?

Stability should be the key, are people not risking massive PH swings using these extreme methods?

I would not do a complete water change because it could really mess with the biological balance.

lol if fresh water is hurting your "bio balance" or your fish then you probably not drink it and switch to ro. water changes are good for fish and there is no such thing as too much

Shouldn't massive water change be more stable especially if the water source is straight from the tap? Am I missing something here?
& for the record, I've been doing 80%~90% water changes everytime with no ill effects to the fish..

To answer the question....technically yes you can do a complete water change. Do I recommend it no but you can do it. But don't make it a regualr every two week or month thing.

I'm talking about my experience, if your in an area where water companies don't mess about too much with the water supply then fine go ahead. Our water tends to be a a high PH but then for no reason it drops briefly maybe but on a 80-90% change I could see huge problems. Plus BB lives everywhere, not only in your filter(where it is the most abundant), IME you can cause a huge bloom or worse by over cleaning/water changing.


Just my opinion, when it comes to filters and water changes if it works for you then it works for you there are no perfect ways in fish keeping.
