Can I do anything to help my gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Methylene blue will not harm the fish. It will increase blood oxygen content, facilitate healing and prevent fungal infections. Neomycin is also an effective antibiotic for this type of wound, it can be purchased as neoplex by seachem to add to the water or as the same OTC triple antibiotic ointment we use on our cuts put directly on the wound. I wouldn't tell you this if it would hurt the fish. The arrow may have introduced bacteria into the wound and you may not see an internal infection until it's too late, an ounce of prevention. Otherwise keep the water as clean as possible and continue with the salt.

I'm just giving advice based on the title of the thread.

I appreciate the advice should I treat at full dose. Run both simultaneously or just the blue. I almost put neosporin on it but wasn't sure the effect of it in water.

Treat a full dosage with MB as per package instructions. After treatment do a 50% water change and cover wound with neosporin. If you should see any sign of infection treat the tank with neomycin or kanamycin.

Thanks so much went and got both the blue and neoplex. Should I do a one time treatment for the 2 days then repeat? Or what intervals? One time? It says nothing on the bottle about that

Do a one time treatment with the MB one tea spoon per 10 gallons of water, do a 50% water change and treat with the neomycin as per instructions.

Good job getting the MB directly on the wound. Looks good.

Thanks I did his side the same way. He stayed in the concentrated portions for about 5 mins then swam out. I mixed it around with my hand.

amazing recovery. ever consider a career as a fish sturgeon? :D

I wish! Think aquanero and a few others around here make me look like a noob. Plus Im pretty sure the gar is as tough as they come!

So caught some kids at my pond bowfishing. It's a private pond and they shot one of my shortnose. I only have 5 in the pond. Can I do anything? I put him in a extra 90 gallon I had. He's floating at the surface on his side wasn't this morning when I put him in.
