can i do this to get rid of poo?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That design would most likely clog fairly quickly...

Pick up a used mag 350 canister and use that to build a gravel vac out of...

Your reverse flow UGF would work fine as long as you used a smaller powerhead and ran it constantly. This would prevent a large build up of crud...

I have to agree with the Doc...just using it once in a while would be a real mess.

Basically get the strongest power head you can to really mix it up. I'm just against this type of thing because it screws up the water sooo bad and the fish have no choice but to 'breathe' it. I prefer a gravel vac type system. I made a wand with a horizontal bar as wide as the tank w/ a slot cut in the horizontal bar facing down and have it hooked to a 800/1000gph pump and dump into a filter system if I'm saving some of the water, then it goes back into the sump.

Ever use a battery powered Sludge Extractor?

As long as the water flow PREVENT's a build up then the filters will take it all in and the fish will be fine.

If you hooked the intake from a canister filter to your ugf uplift tube you could suck out the poo that way.

That would trap the crap in the Gravel....besides you don't want to subject the pump in a canister filter to that sort of stress. Use a powerhead in a reverse flow arangement.
