anyone know if the japanese beetles or ladybugs whatever they are have any toxins? i want to feed them as there all over right now.

post a pic of what you want to feed. japanese beetles and ladybugs are totally different insects.

on a side note; i feed my fish the asian stinkbugs that i find all over my house with no ill effects. but don't get mad at me if you don't have the same results... also, i would advise against feeding them anything caught outside because they could have pesticides on them!

"They don't give off a toxic vapor, at least not in amounts large enough to be detectable by a human nose, unless they are handled or crushed--and all ladybugs give off the exact same "toxic chemical," a foul-smelling yellow oil. The toxic effect on humans is negligible; you'd have to eat a few pounds (thousands) to get sick. But you'd notice it if you were a sparrow, fence lizard, etc. That's why ladybugs are brightly colored--predators associate the bright color with poison, so they stay away. The phenomenon of orange/black or yellow/black = toxic is common in nature and is called aposematism."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coccinellidae

"Mechanical stimulation (such as by predator attack) causes "reflex bleeding" in both larval and adult ladybird beetles, in which an alkaloid toxin is exuded through the joints of the exoskeleton, deterring feeding. Ladybugs, as well as other Coccinellids are known to spray a toxin that is venomous to certain mammals and other insects when threatened."

i found all this info with a quick GOOGLE search of "ladybugs toxic".

I feed my cichlids a bunch of bugs. I live in Florida so there is a wide variety to choose from. I have never fed them Ladybugs and I have never seen a Japanese Beetle so I don't know if either one are harmful to fish. I know to stay away from brightly marked critters though. They usually have a bad taste or poison. Don't make those Trimac X Snooks your guinea pigs! I want to see them grown out!
