Can I feed my cichlids fruits and vegetables

many cichlids are vegetarian. Herichthys pearsei eats mostly green plants in nature, and some are fruit eaters, like black belts, Vieja maculacuada.
Deshelled peas are accepted by most cichlids.

I used to feed my 5 pearsei a head of romaine lettuce per day or 2, washed it well to remove pesticides and never had a problem. With fruit, you don't want to let uneaten parts laying around, the sugars can foul the water if left. Many of the vieja eat fallen figs in nature. Cichlids also eat fallen leaves, I never spray my trees so I feel safe with them.

have fed mine corn once before. they ate it, but id smash it up a little between my fingers
