Unless that media has a source of ammonia that is constant, it will be dead in less than 48 hours.

Man! I guess its dead. I got it the day before yesterday and Im going to fill it up today. I guess i'll just have to go buy one of those packs at a lfs to get the water going

Is there another pleco that I can get in this tank. The bushy nose pleco is ugly. I dont think my daughter would like that pleco (but I did c 1 at a lfs and will let her make that decision)? Any common names, im not that good with the p007 etc... stuff :)

L and LDA numbering systems are common names, that are fairly consistent, and better than most common names. This is evident in the L001 even, as they are not called gold spots everywhere. There are many plecos that will work in that size tank much better than the L001, but it will depend on the temperament of the green terror.

I know that the GT is a juvi around 3.5" if this helps. Lets go with a worst case scenario so there are no surprises and say hes aggressive.
What would you put in?

Given a ton of hiding spots, I'd go with something small, a BN is likely going to be the best bet.

Oh man! Whats a BN? Sorry im not good with plecos for nothing

Nothing else then huh. Well i'll just have to see if she likes them. Thanks

Also, see what your local shops actually stock. There are 100s of species of pleco, and many of them would probably be OK. But if you cant get one (or they are silly prices) then it's not really an option. Who wants to pay several hundred $$ for an exotic pleco and then have your cichlid eat it

Bristlenose plecs are easy to come by, and they are tough little fish. Set your tank up with some driftwood and caves and they will be fine. Tank that size you could even keep several.

I suggested the L001 because they grow a bit bigger and are pretty tough, maybe it will out grow the tank in time, but no where near as fast as a Gibby or Common.

Here in NZ we are a bit limited in selection with plecos, so I only have the common types :(

Cheers

Ian
