Guess sometimes variety is not always the best:D

True...But still. I wanted my little man to have a FEAST!

I had a big O years ago and I gave him/her sliced raw beef as staple. Didn't have any problem but I would NOT recommend it - people seem to think the fat in warm-blooded animals is not good for fish, which makes sense.

Everything in moderation.

Is feeding your fish roast beef once going to cause any long term ill effects? Hell no. But if you feed it roast beef with aju every day for the rest of it's life, yeah, it's gonna have some issues. But the same can be said if you feed it only one brand of food for it's entire life.

So would I feed my fish roast beef? No, because I've got some great specifically formulated foods for fish. Is the sporadic feeding of things other than pellets a bad thing? Definitely not. Variety is the spice of life, just try to keep it within certain boundaries.

I'd honestly be game to try feeding my fish most of what I eat, as I eat a lot of unprocessed and healthy foods (raw fruits and veggies, lean meats, complex carbs and starches). Most CA/SA cichlids are omnivorous and can easily handle some ruf***e in their diet.

It cracks me up when people will chow down on utter crap and then say "Oh my, you can't feed that too your fish, it's terrible for them!" Just look in the mirror fatty's! If it lowers the life expectancy of people it will probably lower the life expectancy of your fish as well, so stay away from the cheesy poofs.

Ok, Mr. Bones :D Did you really just call me fat!!! :D Actually I am Phat :D

Just kidding of course :D I agree :)

Fish aren't used to digesting that kind of protein. Will it die? No, but it's totally unnecessary.

I thought it was mammalian fats, not protein. Hence beefheart, high in protein low in fat.

But I've searched all sorts of scientific journals on aquaculture and can't find anything that says yay or nay to feeding mammal meats to fish.

Well, the thing is that mamalian meats will always carry more SATURATED FAT then a fish could ever get in it's natural diet. Yes, a crustacean could have a high percentage of its fat in saturated form but NEVER nearly as much saturated fat as 'red meat' ( land animals).

And, of course, the closer the protein is to the animal eating it, the more effecient it is! Though, this is not an arguement for canabilism:ROFL:

A fish is cold blooded --- how is a fish from the tropics suposed to deal with large amounts of fat that are still soluable at higher temps.??

ONce or twice a year, more then fine for an animal that only lives 20 years or so. Once a month ----- well MAYBE O.K. ---- I dunno? More then once a week ? WHY! Why not feed human grade fish/ shrimp instead ??????

Personally I don't care for the beef effect in my tanks ;) Been there and really don't care for it..

Kinda like that brand of cichlid sticks from wal mart!! :(
