can i has?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
their fins are not that bad, a few frayed fins here and there. they are pretty gray but showing the orange under their chin and dorsal fin. the psittacus i was just checking them out and has already stopped showing interest in them. they are pretty shy and hiding behind the drift wood. i decided to keep half the lights off today to let them settle.

im still debating on whether or not to keep one or two. so far they're all going to peter.

Even at my house they were shy. Is the tank in a high-traffic area? I've found that the more time I spend in the room and in front of the tank, the more outgoing they are. Usually when I walk into the room they go stampeding across the back of the tank. If I stand in front of the tank and coax them out with food, they eventually give in and meet me at the lid to eat from my hand.

Being in with other cichlids may bring them out, too. I'm hoping my red severum's social personality will convince my Uaru that I'm not a scary monster. He's the first one at the top of the tank for food and he rubs all over my fingers when I'm doing water changes.

Wow great looking Uaru, good luck to Ryan with them, Sean, go get yourself another 125 and get yourself some!

Uaru are fantastic! wait till you get some bulk on them . . . just try tossing in a chunk of raw potato, they will loose all inhibition and destroy it, you will gain a new appreciation for their teeth :D

Sean, Peter,

FedEx wasn't the only carrier with issues last night. The uaru were in a wreck on their way to you, and then today at 2pm, UPS still hadn't shown up with my H. notatus. I tracked the package and it said "Business closed, will attempt redelivery on next business day." :nilly: Except the business wasn't closed; I was at our office all day.

I called UPS and they said the tracking info was misleading. It wasn't actually on the delivery truck. It was still sitting in a terminal at the UPS facility. I had to drive 45 minutes to the facility to pick up the box. Somehow it missed the truck. The sevs were alive when I put them in the tank but a few were spinning in circles and couldn't keep their balance. I turned out the lights and I'll pray that there are no casualties when I check them in the morning.

It was not a good day for fish shipments.

Sorry to hear that Ryan, and hope the notatus make it.... how many did you get? I received 7 a couple of months ago...lost 3 when I moved them to another tank....

I got six. These guys are tiny, probably thumbnail size, which is about how big the orange uaru were when they came to me.

Four of the notatus are up and about but two are down. It looks like ammonia burnt their little fins off. I've had older cichlids pull through when this happens -- they kind of scoot along the bottom until their fins grow back. Unfortunately, these guys are so young and tiny that I doubt they'll make it. :( Stupid UPS. We will see what happens tomorrow.
