Are you kidding me? I know tons of people with wild caught fish in their tanks. Getting wild caught fish is easy. Also I said, "I would not keep them together". Meaning it is my opinion and what I am recommending. I do not believe I said they could not be kept together. I would just not recommend it. Stating depending on many factors is a cop out. I say you can keep a wild tiger, depending on many factors.

imo, I wouldn't mix them. I mixed a tropheus in a malawi tank (6 peacocks, 4 yellow labs, 1 hap) of mine a really long time ago (he was the only one left so I moved him) and he just did not do well. It's different with everyone/each fish. Then again I would never recommend mixing a frontosa with mbuna either. Its not just water quality but temperaments can be different too. Other than one malawi hap I have in my front tank (which is there b/c he keeps the aggression down between my male fronts) I have had bad luck with mixed tanks.

As for water parameters, yes they are a little different. Yes a lot of people do keep store bought fish in treated tap water. However a lot of people do try to keep their water parameters the same as what would be found in the lake (note the word try) and I know a lot of people that do this. I also know a ton of people with nothing but wild caught African cichlids. There are a lot of hobbyist who will keep nothing unless its a wild caught. I have seen some pretty cool WC collections from some locals around here. WC Africans are not hard to get at all and most of the people I know will only keep wild caught, very few of the people I know keep a store raised fish. It really just depends.

I agree with the people saying "dont mix"... And I also agree that there are quite a few "purists" that rather keep wild caught fish because of the risk of buying hybrids/weaker strains in the aquarium fish market... This is especially true when it comes to african cichlids, you never know what youre getting from a fish store unless youre buying adult fish!!!

Mix them if you want. I have a red rainbow tropheus mixed with my mbuna/haps/peacocks/tangs cichlid tank. I'm only missing Vitorian. Careful though, tropheus are mean.

IMHO I disagree with you, you can keep Tropheus with Haps depending on many factors. Most people do not get fish straight from the lakes don't be ridiculous please....

Your just a disagreeing with everyone kind of person aren't you?

I have 4 tropheus with all my 20+ haps 20+mbuna 20+ mawali, 5 victorian and 1 SA cichlids but my tank is heavily overstock. So he can't be mean. I have over 70 cichlids with clown loach, featherfin cat, and pleco.
