can I house a gar with my retiulated stingray?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
funny, as soon as I said that I look to my right and my gar is chilling on the bottom swimming with my rays haha

gator should not be with anything other than another gator.

Touch wood...

there have been records of gars being able to co-exist with other species of fish like bichirs, lungfishes

I agree that this combo will not last long.....

okay, so how about the 6 florida gar, wolf fish, aro, catfish and rays he has lived his entire life with?

Ask any of the experts. PM them. pm e_americanus or pej. Ask them what will become of this combo.

U have no clue what ur doing, do u?? Ill answer for u. NO. the gator gar WILL attack and kill them. end of story.

A 17" gator is young. Very young. just because it lived a few months with those tank mates doesnt mean the combo is gonna work

^ the above post goes into buy & sell.

this --> http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=386326 is relavent though.

please guys, no inflammatory or "i told you so" posts...

i myself just tried the combo, 2 7" leopoldis with my gars. more than anything they stressed the crap out of the rays forcing me to add a divider to the tank. it could probably work IF the rays were much bigger

to xander, you tried rays with ur cubans right? but not any of the gators uv had correct? cubans are a different animal than gators. gators are in a league of thier own. People have had rays with gars and no problems, then some like madding had them kill the ray. i believe that one of the other mods had the ray attack and try(and fail) to eat his gar. Its a combo that can work IMO but not with gators, just as the OP has found out. In fact i believe he is still having issues with the ray, and it might pass still.
