Can I house EBJD's as a pair?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yasuhikotakia modesta? (I need to update myself on changes of scientific names with loaches.) They do get too big at 8 inches but are very aggressive.

Yes that is correct. At their current size they dwell in their tubes until feeding time (I'm fair certain the are nocturnal anyhow). But either way, they will be going to the pond as well. Unfortunate, as they are truely gorgeous fish once matured.

I hope these loaches are housed with the correct companions though as plecos will face the brunt of their brutality. These are very unpleasant with other bottom dwellers unless they can fend for themselves such as tiger loaches of Syncrossus. Plecos have no chance of defending themselves. They'll get their eyes gouged out eventually.

And yes, these are nocturnal.

Don't put another cichlid in the tank. The EBJD will get pick on by the other one.

Yea take all the advice. No more fish those fish need elbow room and lots of it. If it is a common pleco get it were it can be properly house or get a 220+ for all those fish. Also what type of filter are you running

In this tank there is currently a 125gph cascade canister, and two 60gph aquaclear HOB's. Water changes every other day at about 40%

this is just me put if you have a 90 gallon tank with a normal set up (Bio-load) i would have at least 720gph of filtration. I do believe take your tank size and times it by 8. My 90 gallon with a 4 inch Flowerhorn, 4 inch Jack Dempsey, 3 inch Cuban, 4 inch Red Texas, 6 inch firemouth, and 1 bushynose pleco maybe 4.5 inches. i have a Marineland C-530 plus Marine Emperor 400 and a 1050 circulating pump. that tank is maxed out. the red Texas is going to another tank along with the Jack Dempsey and firemouth. you don't have enough water turn over per hour.

forgot to add if you do have a sailfin pleco they get about 20 inches long and they will turn your tank into a septic tank with the amount of waste it will produce along with the amount of food that you will need to provide it. 90 is way to small for a pleco with that potential size
