Can i join the Gar frenzy?

You shouldn't be looking at gars now that you've seen this thread. I won't bash you for opening it, but I would just hope you take it as a lesson. Local fish stores in California sell gars even though they aren't supposed to, probably because there is no accountability on such a small-store level.

What you have to realize is by supporting illegal fish in your state you are hampering honest and good importers and exporters such as Wes and others, who have to deal with USFW and their strict policies (which, from what I've come to understand in Cali sometimes borders on harrassment). Someone is bringing in illegal fish and it is hurting the ebb and flow of our great hobby for other people.

Don't support it!

Wow, youre so overstocked and underfiltered. They need at least a 4000 gallon tank with a million times turnover rate for filtration along with 300% daily w/c's. Make sure to treat with prime and you'll be gold!

Look into "mahseer", big and graceful coldwater monsters. I think Wes aka fugupuff has some right in Cali. Maybe some sturgeon?

i would love a small shool of mahseers (googled it) but there is no careshets on them nor any care sheets. how about northen pike whats the basic care on them? are they legal also?

I'll just address what you can have, mahseers. They will be fine in your Cali weather outdoors when they are larger. I would worry about them being picked off when smaller because such long silvery fish make a very tempting target for predators.

Depending on the type you plan on keeping the temperature range can vary greatly. They can be found from high mountain streams fed by melting snow to areas in southeast asia.

They are a very nice large scaled cyprinid with some with very bold colors and are a bit jumpy when smaller so some type of covering is recommended.
