i really want to keep a black aro i have a 135 gallon (6'x18"Wx2'H) and im wondering if its big enough to keep a full grown one i read they dont get as big as silvers and well i know my local fish store has a 2 - 2 1/2 foot massive aro in what looks like a 125 and theyve had it happy in there for years. so i figure i might be able to get away with one black aro in a 135?

How can you tell the Aro in the 125g at the pet store is happy? You could probably raise a prefectly healthy black aro in a 135G, but that don't mean it's right. IMO if you can't provide an area that is at least 3x the length of the aro and the depth of the tank(from front to back) needs to be equal to the aro. So you could put an arowana up to 18" long in that 135g of yours. eventually it is gonna get 30 plus inches and should be in a 8' x 3' tank.

But that's just my opinion.

well i know this might sound weird but ive seen aros that are longer then the width of their tank and because of how their body is sort of snake like they can still turn perfectly such as that aro at the fish store so i feel like if the fish wasnt like 3 feet long it would be fine but idk

Can you? Yes. Should you? no.

It will outgrow the tank, and when it gets cramped and spooked it will probably end up on the floor. Blacks do generally grow more slowly than silvers, so a tank of that size will hold one for a couple of years (most), but you'll need to upgrade.

Ya I have too, this guy that I adopted is 22" and was in a 48" x 18" tank. Now I don't know if his hunchback was caused by the small tank or not, but it was a sad site to see an aro that didn't swim. These are large fish that are constantly moving, you've gotta give them room to swim.

dude, relax just a bit. When you put things in perspective it's cruel to keep any fish in any home aquarium. We may agree that a tank is too small, but there is no need to reiterate an obvious post to that degree.
