Can I keep a Bristlenose pleco with a Jack?

I have a Jack Dempsey in a 55 by himself and he is about 8 inches long. Recently algae has been a huge problem so I purchased a 4 inch bristlenose pleco and just put him in the tank. The Jack went right up to him and looked at him for a second and then the pleco went into hiding and hasn't left yet.

The Jack has a past of bad aggression (bought him when he was 7-8 inches) and I really don't want him killing my pleco or getting hurt trying to eat the pleco.

The pleco is 4 inches in total length BTW. He is much smaller in mass than the JD and I feel if he reaaallly wanted to the JD could eat him. I just need advice =/

The tank in my sig houses a jd and several other large cichlids as well as about half a dozen 4-6" plecos and the jd doesn't even know they exist. id provide some wood and or rocks that only the pleco could hide under in case the jd were to get curious.

I have plenty of driftwood and hiding places. But it is just the two fish in there and I don't want the pleco going out at night looking for a little algae snack and getting eaten alive from behind. You don't think this would happen?

Also, just my two cents, bristlenoses look awesome. Everything I read is saying how they are the ugly plecos....I love my new one.

I think you'd be ok. I currently have a 10.5" jag in a 90 with a panda cory an they are best buds lol. I wouldn't recommend doing THAT every day, but it is interesting that the cory doesn't get eaten.

Bristlenose are cool! I'm a huge pleco fan tough so I can see how some might think they are ugly

I just got a baby albino Bristol nose and I have a bout a five month old electric blue JD just got the Plenco tonight I’m afraid to let him out do you think the electric blue JD will bother him the bristle nose is about 3 inches but still very small the EBJD is about 5 inches

The pleco may be ok the jd will sleep at night he may chase the pleco if it goes into the jd's favourite cave I have a small ebjd I got just over 2 weeks ago now 2 inches in a grow out tank with some yoyo loahes and he will constantly chase them out of 2 caves he has claimed as his although the yoyo loaches were there first.

jc1119, Better get that cory out while you can. I tried something similar with an Oscar and a pictus cat. It worked for months, then one night I came home to see the catfish sticking out of oscar1s mouth. I had to get some tweezers to extract the catfish by breaking it`s spines in its fins. It was a tight fit. In the end both fish lived, but not together.
