...or would it be too abrasive. It appears to be a hybrid between sand and gravel.

i have not kept Stingrays but have a similar substrate particle size wise and it is used in my cichlid tank. I have manged to scrap the glass while cleaning the sand.

Carib sea torpedo beach is one of the best ray substrates out there... doesnt stick to their discs like finer cuts/other brands. Looks like thats it lol... does not get in the water column either, great stuff.

Doesn't look too coarse. I would be alot more concerned with it holding waste. I definitely prefer bare bottom for my rays. I have used silica sand for them in the past also, it repels the waste to the top making it much easier to vacuum. Water quality should be main concern in my opinion.
