Can I pit these fish in a 29 gallon aquarium?

It could have been the gourami, but I still think the tetras would do it. Generally a healthy fish won’t get stuck in a filter, so the damage would have to be done beforehand. Isolating the fish and keeping it well fed until it heals is the best chance.

Sorry to say that he just died. I'll monitor the gourami to make sure that wasn't the problem. But also the particular one that died was an older one. Maybe old age? Idk. It's just really weird because he has been perfectly healthy and has been in the tank more then a week. Then an hour later he is missing his fin.

But so far everything else is fine, and my platys had 8 baby's which I moved immediately to an emergency 5g which I instant cycled using a sponge filter

I’d just monitor for a bit to make sure it’s an isolated incident, but I think you should be fine. It happens sometimes.
Congrats on the platies - many more where that came from!
