I like snails in my baby tanks. They eat everything (including dead leaves) and they leave the babies alone. What more could you want?

I have kept small plecs in my guppy tanks with no problems. While they eat any leftover food, most algae and any dead bodies, they do poop a lot and so the tank isn't actually any cleaner.

Plecos dont eat fish poop, they make it.

I was also given a 6" goldpot pleco that had learned to slurp up small guppies. But I suspect it was underfed.

A bristlenose pleco would probably be ideal, unless you want to use the feeder tank as a growout for a proper monster plec ;)

I'm not sure what your issue is... In my experience, fish and fish poop have always existed side by side. You can't have one without the other etc. Yes, some fish poop more than others, but that's why we are all so concerned about filtration, right?

re: eating.. they sometimes like to eat the yummy food intended for others. My guy likes to hang upside down and scarf up frozen worms, keeping them away from everyone else. Live worms scatter a bit too much for him to do that.

I agree about the bristlenose.

I don't see the point. They don't get rid of everything. Sure, they'll eat uneaten food, but they only crap it out again. Not to mention feeder guppies are known for being disease ridden, and the diseases may be transmitted to your pleco.
