Can I put eels together with bichirs?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i had a TT, peacock and fire in with a delhezi and 4 sens...never any trouble

should be ok, as long as the size discrepancy isn't huge (meaning the poly can't eat the eel)

i would say it would depend on the bichirs, my ornate has recently developed an aggresive streak, hes 16" and pretty hefty and keeps trying to hunt my 8" oscar! was planning on getting a 12"+ fire eel but thats now on hold.
been told to make sure the bichir is well fed to try and slow down his hunting urge and add more good size fish for distraction purposes so he doesnt fixate on one fish in particular.

i have a 19" fire eel with a 5" bichir and they are fine.

im struggling to feed my fire eel he is 6cm tried eartworms, bloodworms, prawns etc..now wanna add ornate bichir do you think ill be ok?

I don't see a problem with adding a bichir in with a healthy fire eel. I have bichirs and tire track eels and bichirs with my fire eel. But, the difference is that my eels are eating and well adjusted. It appears that your eel might be having some issues. Why is it not eating?

about the eel eating question. i would just like to say my fire eel is pretty much hand fed and in a word lazy. if i dont put the food in his mouth or at his face he'll not eat. which to be honest is worrying. he doesnt go for blood worm, doesnt go looking for muscles or prawns. my point is my orante would clear the food as soon as it was dropped thus meaning your eel (if he has the same feeding issues i have) would starve. i would love to keep bichirs with my eels but the are in a oodball / community tank. i miss my oranate he was a monster.
