Can I Put Tiny Puffers In A 3.5 Gallon?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
na you can do 2-3 if the tank has lots of plants

i have some to in a 5gal

I think I should only put one in a 3.5 gal. It is very tiny and what I have been reading from a link on Puffer Punk's link, one is good.

I don't know how much salt though for a 3.5 gal. How often and what kind. I am still reading much so bear with me.

What are the params for puffers and temp?

pea puffers are freshwater so im guessing your talking about aquarium salt, not marine salt. i believe its something like 1 tablespoon per gallon or something of that nature, directions for dosage is on the back. temp and parameters are the same as pretty much all tropical freshwater fish. temp around 78-82 you want your ph to be 7 and try to keep your nitrites and ammonia at 0 ppm, nitrates you can have trace amounts of but i believe puffers are more sensitive to any bad parameters than most fish due to them not having scales. not sure if anyone linked you to the puffer pedia page for these guys, but here it is: http://www.**************.com/forum/ug.php/v/PufferPedia/Freshwater/C_Travancoricus/

check it out, google "pea puffers/dwarf puffers/pygmy puffers and see what success stories/unsuccessful stories you can find. even searching the website threads for pea puffers to see what people say about these guys

Thanks Jus ~ but when I was at WalMart their puffers are dwarf, and they have little bowls of salt in the corner for them.

And from what I have read Pea and Dwarf are the one in the same...

Pea puffers and dwarf puffers are one in the same. Dwarfs are often sold as pea puffers because the size of their body is the size of a pea. They are strickly freshwater puffers. Green spotted puffers are often sold as dwarfs while they are young and green spotted are brackish or marine puffs.

5 gallons is the recomended size for a single dwarf. It may sound odd to get space like that for something so small but dwarfs are more active then other puffers and need space to swim around.

Personally I've found ************** to be very helpfull so I suggest you go there if you have any puffer questions.

And where is this? I so love puffers too! Why do they fill the lil cups with salt? Do they eat it or just mix in with the water?

Just make sure they are well-fed or else they will start munching tails
