Can I save my pool from a bleach attack?

Ahhh vindictive X wife, I had one of those
Bleach is easily neutralized, a handful of sodium thiosulfate, or any of the pond dechlorinators with work.
Even citric acid will neutralize chlorine.
If you're not convince its clear, drop in some feeder guppies, if they don't go belly up soon after putting them in, you're OK.

Any particularly why you chose to bleach this tank set-up, in this particular scenario?

The heater had gotten stuck on and we woke up to a rotten smell throughout the whole house. The water was over 102 degrees in the tank and all of the fish were dead and stuck to the intakes of the filters. I probably didn't have to bleach it but I didn't want to take any chances on harmful bacteria having formed within the tank so I bleached everything and started completely over. It also helped to get rid of any smell that might have still come from the tank had I not bleached it. It was only a ten gallon tank with two HOB filters on it so it wasn't that much of an effort.

I cleaned my entire filtration system with bleach to kill off some kind of fin rot that just kept coming back. It took 3 days of all the parts sitting in a bucket of water with an airstone and dechlorinator to get rid of the smell, but I now have that filter running on my 55, and have had no issues in the 2 months I've had the tank up. :)
I also rinse my wild plants with bleach, then water, and then soak with dechlorinator for an hour before I put them in my tank so as not to introduce anything I don't want to. I say go ahead, you probably could even put fish in now.

Personally I'd dump a ton of dechlor or sodium thiosulfate in there, fill it up a few hours later and get the water circulating. Surface friction should help.

I'm in the process of refilling it now. I just want to save my equipment. Alot of good points made that I kinda already figured but you all helped reaffirming it helps. Now I'm not going to be staying in that house so I may do a bunch of live bearers until the move.

I always bleach my smaller tanks and rinse them before putting water back in. Never tried it on bigger tanks.

i have just a few questions did the charges ever get filed for your ex wife, did you ever get the water tested, and do you still have some left.
i hope this is not the case but i have heard of some chemicals staining objects and they cant be recover

Hello; Around a year + ago I broke down all my tanks in series. I was trying to get rid of slime algae.
I soaked all the gravel in 5 gallon buckets with a healthy dose of chlorox and water. I also soaked all the tank equipment in a Clorox solution.

When I set the first tank back up I had rinsed all well and allowed the filled tank to sit a few days. Thinking the rinse and sitting would defeat the Clorox that might remain. I was wrong. I put some snails in the tank who soon died.

I do not normally keep de-chlor chemicals around. I found some Prime. Put a slightly generous dose for the volume of the tank. Tried some more snails = all were ok. Tried a couple of small fish = OK.

For the next tanks I used the Prime after a Clorox soak + rinse. All has been fine.

By the way I did some math on Safe compared to Prime. I was first alerted to this in posts on this forum. The safe is much cheaper to use than Prime by a lot. I now have a sealed bottle of Safe on hand.

Good luck

By the way after two divorces I stopped getting married. I was able to save money and have a comfortable retired life. I do live alone which on good days is not as good as the few very good married days I had. However my bad days now are worlds better than the numerous bad days I had when married.
Both my X's eventually came back around checking on getting back together. I was lucky in that they had stayed away long enough that I was able to resist.

No charges as of yet. Humane society did say there was a case, I have to get them a video I took of her admitting to it yet.
