They like cover, I would say it would be good if you put a cave in there for him. It would be a lot more comfortable that way.
You’d be surprised what it could squeeze into though.

Yeah if the cat can't hide then he'll just chill in some random spot that he likes.Do they have to have lots of cover? The tank is setup for the bichirs and Oscar, so it has very little decor, just sand, and few large rocks.
Personally I'd just add in a piece of pvc pipe that's a few inches in diameter to the tank. They create really nice caves once weighted down.
Ok thanks, i have some more rocks, so I’ll just build a couple small caves for it.No cover then it will go under the heater which is not good. It's a recipe for heater burn. Get a black PVC pipe at the very least.
Lol just make caves that can comfortably house a 8in catfish. Most stripe's get to roughly 8in while spot's tend to be a couple inches smaller on average.Ok thanks, i have some more rocks, so I’ll just build a couple small caves for it.
The one I’m getting is about 8” now, I was gonna grab it today but something came up, bigger is probably better, a couple of my polys will get around 16” and then there’s the OscarLol just make caves that can comfortably house a 8in catfish. Personally I prefer spotted rapheals to striped. I just like how the spotted raph's are smaller on average and get a real nice black and white spotted pattern.
Could always glue a stack of pvc together and hide it behind/underneath some rocks. It would hide the ugly man made structure while also providing a small apartment complex for the fish lol.The one I’m getting is about 8” now, I was gonna grab it today but something came up, bigger is probably better, a couple of my polys will get around 16” and then there’s the Oscar
I have some pvc, maybe if I can’t make the rock cave the way I want, I’ll have to see what I have, I have a bucket of old decor laying around, good ide thoCould always glue a stack of pvc together and hide it behind/underneath some rocks.
