Someone gave me a used tank, that was a failed reef tank. It's a 30g long.
If i clean it thoroughly, would I have problems if I set it up a fresh water tank?
It would most likely be a soft water dwarf cichlid tank.

Any thing I should use to clean it?

I also got the filter, I think I will pass it on, and use another.

Yes, others here have done it recently. You should be able to use the same filter even as long as it's in good shape.

Good luck :)

I did that. Get a spray bottle and fill it up 3/4 of the way with vinegar and 1/4 of the way with water. Spray the tank out well and let it stand for an hour. Rinse the tank out well a few times while scrubbing it with a scrubber. Let the tank set overnight just to make sure any traces of the vinegar is evaporated.

I agree with using hot water and vinegar to clean it out. Then rinse it very well to remove the vinegar residue.

No need to bleach it, the pathogens in salt water are very different than in freshwater. It's probably easier to set up a FW tank that used to be salt water, than getting a FW tank, and having to disinfect it before you use it!
