you can use it but it will be a very small pond. i would also recommend building a small "house" for it to keep it dry. water is meant to be on the inside not the outside. also is the pond going to be above ground or below. canister filters are not meant to pump water that is below them even water that is a the same level as the canister reduces the efficiency of the pump. it would probably be a better idea to build yourself a gravity filter. it is pretty easy and cheap to do.
