i have a large piece of driftwood i want to put in my fish tank but i cant get it to stay down. i had a piece of slate on but it wasnt heavy enough. i have had it in the bottom of my pond for weeks but it still floats. i have a piece of lead that seems to be heavy enough. but can i use the lead in my fish tank? will the lead hurt my fish?

I say yes, as long as water changes are carried out like normal.

I'd be uncomfortable using lead. It's been banned on toys as well as paint. I'm no scientist, but I think it will react to exposure to water --Rust, lead poisoning, etc . . .

Sorry i dont know about the lead but that tank is super sweet!!!!!

lead is chemically inert in water as in it will not form compounds with water. This does not stop is from leaching out in it's elemental state into the water and i agree that lead poisoning of your fish (lead builds up in bone marrow and is slowly relased into the body from there so even once you remove it from the environment it's health effects can remain) would be a concern. Perhaps you should seal it in something like an epoxy so it cannot leach into your water.

and let me add: HOLY C**P that tank is awesome
