Can i use small amount of coppersafe to mix in my aquarium as ick prevention? Has anyone ever do that?
My fish have shown some white spot and a turn the heater up to 90F for a day but no help. More white spot but fish still eating and active. I dont want to give an unnecessary treatment that may affect fish health.
Any advice is appreciated.
Thank you

Coppersafe should work, and be safe depending on what species you have.
It takes longer than 1 day to successfully eradicate ich though, sometimes takes a month. In order to kill all ich parasites, all the protozoa must go thru some part of the life cycle where treatment is effective, and there are really only 2 stages where ich is vulnerable to treatment. When it is a white spot on this fish, is not a vulnerable stage. When it is buried on the fish, the slime coat of the fish protects it from treatment. The ich must hatch out of the spot to be killed.

In higher pH values, copper is very effective at eradicating most ectoparasites from fish, including freshwater ich. In fact, in higher pH values I personally find Coppersafe to be far easier on a fish than elevated temps, and/or salt.

IMO using a small amount of Coppersafe as a preventative would not be a good idea. As Duane explained you need to understand the life cycle of this parasite as it can only be killed during certain stages.
