Its not true, table salt is fine.
Kosher pickling salt is my salt of choice. It is just plain table salt with out the anti cacking aingredients and is available for purchase in large qualtities cheap.
Aquarium salt is pure NaCL...same as the pickling salt. But Aquarium salt comes in a package with a cute fishy on the front so they charge you 30x more.
