Guys, are these safe to use for holding catfish? The one I want is 6'x2'x2'. I have not seen a plastic one.

Is this safe or ??

Thanks

I'm gonna guess not. Being they are galvanized I dont think they would be suitable for the long term. I know on my Sisters farm they only use galvanized containers for dry feed and such, anything that has water is always plastic.

JMO though..............

i say keep on looking for plastic will probabley be better

thanks guys. I haven't seen plastic ones that are long and not too wide like this 6'x2'x2'.

I have seen them used as a watering trough for cows but was not sure if they were safe for fish.

So the consensus is they probably leach metals right? I might just put pond liner over I guess.

Maybe if you start a third thread you could get a different answer...

I'll throw in a third answer............. Buy one of the galvanized tubs and use one of those epoxy paints people use for their plywood tanks. That should seal of any leaching. Just an Idea.

My thoughts as well.

I've heard (from guppy on here I believe) that the galvanized tanks leach nickel into the water which builds up and becomes toxic.

the place selling them should have the rubbermaid ones....

I have seen many of the elongated ones like that made by rubbermaid at tractor supply stores around here.
