hello, i am planning on getting on getting an african lungfish in a few years and I have some questions. 1: Would one fit in a 60 gallon? 2: Could I keep an oscar with one?
and 3: will they eat bloodworms? thank you for your gratitude.

sincerely,
David

None of the african lungfish species are safe to keep with other fish. And, the only species that may be kept in a 60gal is the hardest to maintain and most difficult to obtain. That would be P. amphibius and it's also the most expensive african lungfish species.

You can keep Os with south american LF (Lepidosiren paradoxa) but, not in a 60. A tank that size would only be sufficient for a single oscar.

Yes, LFs will eat bloodworms but, only as juvies. They won't get very many once they grow. At larger sizes, they'll require larger food items to be offered.

x2.

how much would P. amphibius cost, heck, im willing to pay whatever it takes to get one of these

Good luck with that one. I'm pretty sure that there's only ever been one in the U.S., and it only had two owners, one of which was Oddball. If I'm not mistaken, you're probably looking at spending at least a few hundred dollars, if not more; odds are that you'll have to have one specially imported for you.

You can check with Toyin (REHOBOTH) and see if he can get one in for you. I can't say what the price would be but, it'll be several hundred. Count on much more from any retail source.

With P. amphibius, there is no "usually" since there's only been one known to the hobby in the US. If you're not experienced with the genus or with the medical care/prophylaxis employed in the hobby, this is a species to steer clear of.
As to whether or not to get a larger tank..., this is Monster Fish Keepers. Our usual answer is 'YES". There's always a right time to get a larger tank.

thank you very much, i finally have the correct info for my dream fish

I'd say that you're better off starting with a West African lungfish (Protopterus annectens) before dropping at least a couple hundred dollars on a gilled African lungfish (Protopterus amphibius); they're the most common & cheapest lungfish by far and are pretty sturdy fish plus they're the second smallest species of lungfish. However, you'll need at least a standard 100 gallon aquarium (72" x 18" x 17") to house an adult specimen, but your 60 gallon aquarium will certainly work for a while if it has a larger footprint.
