Can limiting the flow of an air pump damage it?

Just go to the fish store and buy air line valves. They are like 75 cents each.

The air pump will probably fail earlier than it should.

As suggested, buy an airline gang valve that has multiple outlets, hook up the valves you need to the sponge filters, adjust the valves until you get the flow you want and then open one of the unused valves and vent it to atmosphere without reducing the flow to the sponge filters.

It may be too much water movement in such small tanks but you could try it.

Is there any reason why you don't want to buy a gang valve? They aren't that expensive.

Would it stress the fish if I just opened up the valves going too the sponge filters?
That's what I would do. Based on my observations it will just cause more water to flow through the sponges.

I know that and i'm not lazy, but I am busy with stuff so will turning up the flow into the tank stress the fish?
Dude, we are suggesting you makea cut in an airline. Just go ahead and burn a pump up! You obviously don't like the advice.
